The exterior braces and detail work of the Victorian & Edwardian era are now a major element in the ‘New Old’ style of homes. Western Red Cedar is the wood of choice for these elements due to its natural water resistance and durability.
As braces have both decorative and structural roles, we ensure that each unit is square and dimensionally identical. All of these pieces were built in the shop, delivered to the sites on the days they were required. They were also primed at the shop to reduce ladder time for the painter.
Four designs for four different homes. The more elaborate designs are built up from laminated cedar planks to reduce the tendency to twist or check with the change of seasons. Other designs are built from solid timbers as the architect’s choice was to allow the wood to check for some added patina in the design.
